p15:

(Effortlessly) emphasize (and/or err on side of) receptivity (or openness/vulnerability [to being changed by experience, environment, self] (over doing (and effortlessly guarding against or deeply implicit or explicit fixed or presupposed goals) or presupposition in general (and receptivity can optionally include fluid/nebulous/empty questions and fluid requests (fluid asker and fluid answerer and fluid answering and fluid answer and fluid requester, fluid requestee, fluid response, and so on.) [most parentheses not closed at this time]

Miscellaneous (may be split out into a pX):

nothing left to do, accept X when safe, open focus, allow the periphery

Notes:

  • cf. key terms: receptivity, questions, requester
  • cf. generalized “listening”
  • cf. receptivity here is with respect to sensory, interoceptive, doxastic, existential, metaphysical, cosmological, the world, the universe, "inner space," "subtle body space," etc.
  • "can't change even a single drop, a single dot"
  • "I/self mistaken about its own influence cf. '[sensations] can't directly change other sensations'"
  • "experience and 'change' come to you; you don't go to it"
  • issues with "trying to get somewhere" ["inside of yourself or outside of yourself", whether meditating or in life] / problematic connotations or implicature of "global wayfinding" metaphor
    • "no/t trying to 'ratchet', or "get somewhere", or 'permanently get somewhere' [almost with in an implicit "else" as in e.g. get somewhere else, permanently get somewhere else, where the "else" is partly "you", so sort of a combination of "I do something to (in order to) become different in a different (or future) place and time.]" or "I make or cause something to happen (in order) to, so that I, such that I, become different in, or am (directly or iteratedly or ratcheted-ly) transported to, a different (or future) place and time." / "Actively trying to get to a different future, now." [Compare with "just this".]
    • alternative eventually credible and workable strategy to trying to change self is strategy (of bodymind changing to become safe to) let the world """update""" (""")you(""")
      • self-knowing, self-"updating"
    • Re "progressing" (cf. pushing, forcing, controlling, making progress, advancing...) Not wrong to "progress," just we’re generally doing it, pervasively, inefficiently and counterproductively, and better ways are ridiculously counterintuitive and potentially short-run costly (sometimes to the point of prohibitive risk and opportunity cost).
  • As a general safety caution, it's maybe especially better to explore this main practice when you're alone, as "receptivity" / "listening" type things can increase subtle interaction between people, between students and teachers, and so on. And this can happen outside of awareness. So, like, on the one hand, 1% of the time this (increased subtle interaction in a "spiritual" context) is genuinely a good thing, and I imagine 99% of the time this is more trouble than it's worth. Over time, one becomes good at sensing and metabolizing and can make better and better, deliberate choices in the moment based on various benefits, costs, and tradeoffs. But, in the early days, it's a risk.
